S.E.M.K.A. is a proactive and full member of the English Karate Federation (E.K.F.), the National Governing Body of Karate in England as recognised by the World Karate Federation (W.K.F.), the European Karate Federation (E.K.F.), the Commonwealth Karate Federation, the British Karate Federation (B.K.F.) and the International Olympic Committee (I.O.C.); British Wadokai, the British Wado Federation and the International Wado Federation under the direction of Gary Swift 7th Dan Kyoshi. Therefore, all students who join any of our clubs have direct access to training and competition opportunities to the very top of sport Karate. If following a traditional route we also offer access to many interesting courses with recognised masters throughout the year.

British Wadokai

British WadokaiThe British Wadokai was formed under the direction of Gary Swift 7th Dan Kyoshi in May 2007.

It is a friendly traditional Wado-Ryu Karate organisation providing a very high standard of support, guidance and benefits to all students and clubs that choose to join us.

British Wadokai has foundations that were established in 1976, therefore, the direct unbroken lineage of British Wadokai extends over 30 years. The Kyu grade syllabus has remained almost unchanged since the first introduction of Wado into the UK by Suzuki Tatsuo 8th Dan Hanshi in 1964 (this is the basis and foundation of British Wadokai). All Tai-Sabaki has remained intact, including Sanbon-gumite, Ohyo-gumite, and Kihon-gumite etc. All these aspects are taught and promoted strongly within all British Wadokai Dojo.

The British Wado Federation

The only Governing Body for Independent & Autonomous Traditional Wado Karate Clubs and Groups, within the United Kingdom, under the International Wado Federation. Bringing Independent Wado organisations together in mutual harmony.

The British Wado Federation (a.k.a. Eikoku Wado Renmei) is a friendly, non-profit making, Wado Karate Governing Body. The British Wado Federation caters for the needs of autonomous Wado clubs/groups, within the United Kingdom, providing support and training in traditional Wado karate.

The British Wado Federation was formed in 2007, evolving from the already fully-established infrastructure of British Wadokai, which is independent from all 'All-Styles' and 'Sport-Orientated' Karate Governing Bodies.

British Wado Federation offers services, support and an allegiance for all members. Additionally, there will be no interference with the type of Wado Karate you practise.

Services available and provided by the British Wado Federation, if required, include access to Fully Comprehensive (Liability & Personal Accident) Insurance (Instructor and Student), Child Protection Office/r, CRB Resources, H&S Advice and Courses, Coaching Courses, Traditional Wado Courses, Traditional British Wadokai Competition each year, plus much more.

So, if you are a 1st Dan of 18 years or over and teach Wado Karate at your own club, or group, you may like to consider the British Wado Federation or British Wadokai as the next step upon the Wado ladder.

The International Wado Federation

The only union for all Autonomous and Independent traditional Wado Karate Groups and Associations throughout the World.

The International Wado Federation is a friendly traditional Wado karate organisation promoting Wado unity world-wide as an alliance of 'autonomous' Wado associations and groups internationally.

The International Wado Federation was formed from the foundations of the Alliance of International Wadoryu (AIWa) and is independent from all 'sport orientated' and 'all-style' Karate Governing Bodies.

There will be no interference with the type of Wado Karate you practise, just services, support and most importantly an allegiance for all members.

English Karate Federation

English Karate FederationThe English Karate Federation (E.K.F.) is set-up as a democratically elected body for English Karate to cover the whole spectrum of our martial art and to further develop an understanding administration that listens to the needs of all the many aspects of Karate from Sport to Traditional, from the youngest beginner to the most senior instructor.

The EKF is the official governing body for English Karate by as recognised by the World Karate Federation (W.K.F.), the European Karate Federation (E.K.F.), the Commonwealth Karate Federation, the British Karate Federation (B.K.F.) and the International Olympic Committee (I.O.C.).

Important note for S.E.M.K.A. members and prospective members

Please note that by applying to join S.E.M.K.A. you are entering into an agreement that this is your only affiliation. As a member of S.E.M.K.A. it is important that you are not also a member of another National/World Governing Body outside of membership to the English Karate Federation or World Karate Federation. This is a W.K.F. requirement under statute 21.9. Please contact us if you have any questions.
